An independent healthcare provider in Newcastle is set to expand its premises, add new services and create jobs, thanks to a six-figure funding package.
Minor Ops, which trades as My Health Clinic, offers a range of medical services including ophthalmology, audiology and podiatry to NHS and private patients.
It grew revenues by 133 per cent during 2018 after buying a new 3,800 sq ft clinic in late 2017, with the help of a previous funding package from Lloyds Bank.
Launching new services
Now it is set to add a surgical theatre suite – including an anaesthetic room, scrub room, operating theatre and recovery bay – along with three new clinic rooms and a pain clinic.
It will also recruit a consultant plastic surgeon to expand its offer to include cosmetic surgery options.
"We only began offering private services 18 months ago as a way to diversify our business. It’s now the fastest growing part of our company."
Rob Boyce, managing director, Minor Ops
"We started out offering private services through a rented clinic space, but it soon became clear that we needed our own site.
"Having our own space has meant we can now combine all of our services under one roof and provide space for our administrative functions.
"It’s also given us room to physically expand and add new services, as well as boosting the number of cross-referrals between the different elements of the business.”

Stuart Harper, relationship director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: "My Health Clinic offers trusted treatment options for private procedures and provides valuable support to our local NHS services, helping ensure patients in the local community are treated as quickly as possible."
"The healthcare sector plays a significant role in the North East’s economy and our dedicated healthcare relationship managers offer expert advice and tailored funding to local providers."

Outstanding quality care
The company has a team of 10 consultants and 25 nurses, who treat patients at the firm’s Gosforth site and through clinics at GP surgeries and health centres across the North East.
Ophthalmology comprises the largest proportion of treatments and the business is now the largest independent ophthalmology clinic in the North East.
